Counselling helps us to manage symptoms or behaviors in a healthier manner, while psychotherapy works to uncover and explore concerns in an effort to resolve the underlying causes. My intent is to help the individual understand the reasons and causes underlying the symptoms and behaviors and then to see if change is warranted. As a therapist, I take my lead from the individual seeking help - what is it that they wish to achieve and what is reasonable for them to achieve at this time in their life? Ultimately, we work together for a healthier sense of wellbeing. Cost for services is $160.00 per hourly appointment. I also offer a discounted rate ($110.00) for UBCO and Okanagan College students. I continue to strive to learn more about therapy and incorporate new ideas in my work. For therapy to be effective, a trusting and caring relationship needs to exist between the therapist and client. Honest and clear feedback is valuable to move the counselling relationship forward. It can be a little scary to open up to a counsellor. I take this into account when working with all individuals. I often will try to bring a sense of humor to the session to help people feel more comfortable and to break tension. I also consider that many of us seeking help have been touched by trauma in some way, and that traumatic experiences may impact our sense of who we are and how we view the world. I fully believe that at any age we can strive to make a difference in ourselves, our relationships, and our world.
